More business leaving California for Indiana

Indianapolis continues to provide safe haven for companies escaping California, where the business environment is incredibly unfriendly.  Two companies, PTS Diagnostics from Sunnyvale and AP Technology from Napa, are making the move.

PTS Diagnostics, a medical device manufacturer, is leaving Sunnyvale:

WHITESTOWN, Ind.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--PTS Diagnostics, Inc., a manufacturer of high-quality point-of-care diabetes-related blood testing devices, is announcing the planned closure of its Sunnyvale, CA, manufacturing facility. The closure process will begin on December 5, 2025, with final closure expected to be effective on or around March 31, 2026.

This move is being made to take advantage of manufacturing capacity resulting from the opening of the Whitestown facility in July 2019. This will allow the creation of production efficiencies resulting from consolidation of both their A1CNow® and CardioChek® product lines into one central manufacturing location.

Also making the trip is AP Technology, a subsidiary of SMC, another Napa-based company leaving for Noblesville:

A longtime Napa manufacturer that supplies parts to tech and semiconductor firms will shut down this winter, cutting more than 200 jobs and blaming tariffs, slowing overseas demand and high operating costs in California.

Advanced Pressure Technology, or AP Tech, said it will permanently close its Napa plant and lay off 237 workers on Dec. 1, according to a notice filed with the state Employment Development Department.

The company, which makes valves and gas delivery components, is a subsidiary of Indiana-based SMC Corp. of America.

They cite tariffs as the main reason for relocation, but businesses have been leaving California in droves for quite some time.
