Thirst for inventory continues to grow in our area:
INDIANAPOLIS (September 23, 2025) — The Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis (BAGI) reports a 3% year-over-year increase in single-family building permits issued across Central Indiana through August 2025, underscoring the region’s steady housing demand and market adaptability.
According to the latest data, 7,048 permits have been filed year-to-date in 2025, compared to 6,822 permits during the same period in 2024. While month-to-month performance varied across the nine-county region, the overall growth reflects builder resilience amid ongoing economic pressures, including interest rate fluctuations and inflation concerns.
“Even as individual counties experience ups and downs, the broader Central Indiana market is proving its staying power. Builders are not only responding to demand but also helping shape communities that continue to attract new residents,” said Chris Hancock, CEO of the Builders Association of Greater Indianapolis (BAGI). “What stands out this year is how well our builders have adapted. They’re navigating higher costs and shifting buyer expectations yet still delivering homes that support steady growth across the region.”
Another factor sustaining market strength is the diversity of housing options builders are bringing to the table — from move-in ready homes to longer-term custom projects. This flexibility helps meet a wide range of buyer needs, whether families are looking for immediate availability or planning for the future.
Despite challenges tied to affordability, workforce, and policy, momentum is building. With population growth and buyer demand still active, Central Indiana is holding steady — and positioning itself as one of the Midwest’s most resilient and attractive housing markets.
